Hello,

I've been dying to try some of the polyphasic sleep schedules for quite a while, but I am facing some issues.

As a student, I have some pretty unsteady schedules - I start class at 8:45 every day, have a lunch break from 12:15-1:15 and then go till 4:30. On some days, I have class all the time, on others I have free periods, but they're never at the same time, which makes it kind of difficult to figure out where naps would fit in. I have a thirty minute commute to and from school.

I'd love to try something like Uberman's, but there's no way they'd fit into school hours...Everyman's seems decent too, but I don't know whether I can do the naps at the right time or not either.

I'm doing a crazy non-regular sleep schedule at the moment because I need to - I'll go to bed at about 1AM (sometimes up until 3AM) and get up at 7 if its a regular day. When I have a lot of work, I'll wake up early, so that I sometimes sleep at 3 and get up at 5:30 to keep working..this is generally okay for most of the day, I'm high as f*ck on sleep deprivation, and then I sometimes crash - I have caffeine pills that I take if I really need to. On weekends I'll sleep in till about 12, still sleeping at 1AM or so. Sometimes I have naps, because I can feel that I'm tired.

I really do want to try out a schedule, but don't know which would be best. Also, since I have a ski break coming up next week, I want to try and start it then so as to be into the swing of it by the time class starts again. Any suggestions? They would be very very very appreciated!

Thank-youuuuu!

@Gareth:

You could cite improved performance; I just mentioned my bipolar diagnosis and they were willing to be flexible.

@Dean:

I'm not sure how that would affect you (if you go ahead with it, please write it up!), but I do recommend not stopping during adjustment. I've found that it's best to have as little variation in activity levels as possible - makes it a lot easier.

Thank you. :) Will do. I'm planning to investigate the effects of things like alcohol on this pattern over the next week or so, will post the results here.

Hey Léonard,

I'm glad you're trying it! Let me know how it goes.

The caffeine will make initial adaption easier, yes. The problem is that if you rely on caffeine your pattern won't last, because you'll build up a tolerance to the caffeine and it'll stop working. But if you're only looking for a pattern to sustain for a month or so, I think caffeine is a good solution.

Good luck!

Hello !

I'm actually trying the tesla pattern with caffein naps. I began yesterday so, last night I only have one caffein nap at 1 o'clock and another early in the morning at 7o'clock.

I will tell you how I feel. But quite right actually, and coffee makes me working better, harder, and faster.

Are you sure that coffe warns us to adapt very well ?
It's not my first experience with polyphasic sleep. Last year I was unto everyman during one month and half but with no caffeine and it seemd to me much harder than it is right now.

Interesting to be discussed.

Nice nap !!!

Hey dancing.ostrich,

The good thing about Everyman is that it's flexible. If you need to reschedule a nap sometimes it won't mess up your schedule. I'd say try Everyman for at least a couple of weeks, see what nap patterns work for you. Puredoxyk has written much more about Everyman than me - check out her blog at http://puredoxyk.com.

It's a lot easier if you can sleep during your commute - is that possible?

Good luck! :)
